CALLING ALL ARTISTS, CRAFTERS AND MAKERS OF ORIGINAL ART!

ArtFest 2011
TO ALL ARTISTS, CRAFTERS AND MAKERS OF ORIGINAL ART:

On behalf of the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce I am pleased to announce the launch of the Chamber’s first annual Art Fest, which will be held in the spring of 2011.

This is an opportunity for artists like you to display their talent in our community. We have planned the event to occur simultaneously with our quarterly Market Days on March 5, 2011. Also on that day, Flatonia has been selected as a hand-off city for the Texas Independence Relay Runner's Race, which is an annual event that attracts large numbers of participants and their support groups. We anticipate an exciting, fun-filled day that will be highlighted with your artwork on display.

All types of artisans are being invited to the Art Fest, and their work will fall into one of two categories: 1) fine art, or 2) artisan crafts. Fine art exhibits will be distinguished from artisan crafts by location set-up. Exclusive spaces in the downtown area have been selected for fine art displays, and the artisan crafts will have a designated section within the Market Days vendor booth area. This entire area is on Main Street in Flatonia.

In order to ensure the success of the first annual Art Fest of Flatonia, there will be an aggressive advertising campaign beginning in January to reach artists and visitors in the San Antonio, Austin and Houston areas, as well as the bordering counties of Flatonia. We urge you to enter the Art Fest as soon as possible by completing and returning the attached application form. You may also go online for further information and any updates to the event. Visit us at www.flatoniachamber.com.

We will be proud to share your talent with our community, so please take this opportunity to apply now. Feel free to call me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Victoria Trahan Duncan, President
Flatonia Chamber of Commerce

Czech Out What’s Cookin’ at Czhilispiel 38

Flatonia, TX – October 12, 2010 – Flatonia’s premier event, Czhilispiel, will continue the good times this year at the 38th Annual Czhilispiel Festival, set for the weekend of October 22, 23, and 24 in Downtown Flatonia.  The festival will host the always popular CASI sanctioned “czhili” cook-off, the barbecue and jackpot margarita contests, and largest tented biergarten in Texas.

The fun doesn’t stop with the delicious food and cold drinks.  Czhilispiel 38 will offer the classic favorites like the carnival, egg toss, and for the brave, the jalepeno eating contest.  New to Czhilispiel this year are the horseshoe tournament and royal white tiger exhibit.  The biergarten will also house the main stage for this year’s phenomenal concert series.  Czhilispiel’s Friday opening night will feature the Logan Tucker Band and local favorite, Broke 60.

Saturday kicks off with the Czhilispiel 5k and Lion’s Club Pie Auction, and along with all the cooking, tasting and judging for those coveted titles, there will be dancing in the tent starting with polka by the Red Ravens, then Texas Country from Chris Brade and Mark McKinney.  The evening will be capped off perfectly with this year’s headliner, Stoney Larue, playing the main stage until 1am.

Czhilispiel Sunday will feature the annual Czhilispiel Grand Parade, followed by live music from the Scott Taylor Band, and Johnny Dee & the Rocket 88s.  Don’t forget to stop by and check out the Car and Truck Show too.

Presale carnival wristbands can be purchased from the Flatonia Chamber by stopping by or calling 361-865-3920.  Cook-off and vendor applications are also still being accepted. Applications can be found  on the Flatonia Chamber’s website at www.flatoniachamber.com, or blog at czhilispiel.blogspot.com.  You can also get up to the minute news by following Czhilispiel via the blog, Czhilispiel Facebook page or Twitter at twitter.com/czhilispiel.

Tigers are coming to Czhilispiel!

Zoo Dynamics' Royal White Tiger Discovery Exhibit is coming to Czhilispiel!

The “Royal White Tiger Discovery” is a special outreach program that features ,hands-on, interactive with the Keepers with conservation and education programs which goals are to promote and excite people to the many conservation issues involving the last five remaining species of tigers in the wild. This program exhibit has many daily activities such as daily feeding times, keeper conservation talks, and public participation. The public will be able to observe the keepers while feeding and handling the tigers which is an event that guest will not soon forget, and will also further spark the conservation interest in these magnificent animals. You may have seen some of our animals on Animal Planet™, LIFE Magazine™, and others, but to see the Royal White Tigers up close and personal, is an awesome experience! Be sure to bring your cameras!

The Royal White Tiger has been extinct from the wild since 1958. The first White Tiger that came to the United States, was in 1961, and was presented to President Eisenhower at the White House (which then went to the National Zoo) as a gift from India. Check out the May 1961 National Geographic™ for the complete exciting story.

Currently there are just over 40 of these magnificent animals on exhibit in the large accredited zoo’s in the United States, and it is believed just over 400 are in captive in the world.

LAST CALL FOR CZHILISPIEL SPONSORS!

Please see the letter below from the Czhilispiel Sponsor Co-Chairs.  Additional Sponsorship information can be found here.

To view a list of sponsors so far, click here.

CZHILISPIEL, the Hottest Celebration in Texas, is heading into its 38th year, and expecting an even greater response than ever before!  We are soliciting sponsors to help make this year’s Czhilispiel an even Bigger and Better event!

The 38th Annual Czhilispiel is scheduled for October 22, 23, & 24, 2010 in downtown Flatonia.  Due to the support of wonderful sponsors and volunteers each year, we welcome a crowd of over 15,000 visitors into our Historic Downtown.  The Czhilispiel has put Flatonia on the map for several years and we look forward to seeing it grow even larger this year.

As you know sponsor support is the key to all successful events, and this year to heat things up a little, we have increased sponsorships and are providing all sponsors with new and improved promotional opportunities.

Sponsors will receive many advertising benefits such as name placement at the festival, listings on our city and festival websites along with other promotional ads and possible radio and TV/Cable spots (depending on the level of sponsorship).

Traditionally, our local businesses have been very involved and supportive of the annual Czhilispiel.  The sponsorship levels attached identify the benefit package that your company or organization will receive by being a part of this HUGE community event.  If you are interested in sponsoring this year, please mail the completed sponsorship confirmation form with a check to Czhilispiel Festival, P.O. Box 610; Flatonia, Tx 78941 no later than July 31, 2010.

In the previous year, some of our sponsors did not receive the promotional opportunities as promised.  To make up for this error, we are increasing the number of passes on each level.  We sincerely apologize for the oversight and will assure it will never happen in the future.  We truly respect you r assistance and will do everything in our power to make sure you are granted all that you deserve.

If there is a particular event that you would be interested in sponsoring, please specify on the agreement.

For more information please call the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce at 361.865.3920 or contact us by email flatoniacofc@sbcglobal.net.

Sincerely,
David Urban and Chelsa Vinklarek
